Robotics Workshop
This week, Youth4Youth held a robotics workshop in ESF South Island School. We were very happy to teach the students about the different components of a robot such as a gimbal and a chassis. Students then used a micro:bit to learn the basics of how to integrate hardware and software in robot development. We taught the students how to code a flashing heart and smiley face image on their micro:bits, a rock paper scissors game, create a virtual interactive pet hamster and create a heads guess virtual game. The most fun coding challenge however, was coding a step counter that counted up when shaken. It was great to see the students so involved in these tasks!
The activity that the students seemed to enjoy the most was DJI Robotmaster, an intelligent educational robot that lets users learn about robotics, programming and AI. Youth4Youth took the students through the step-by-step process of coding the robot so that the chassis colour was red and pulsing, while the gimbal was solid black. Students also learnt how to code the robot to enable person identification and then fire at full auto. It was also fun to teach the students how to use solo mode to code the robot and make it follow a person. What a fantastic session to get the students interested in robotics, programming, computer science and engineering!
